The Sea Serpent.

A Norwegian newspaper publishes the following, under the date of Hammerfest, September 14 : — " The Finmarkposten has collected and published an account from several trustworthy men, well experienced in the capture of every sea animal, who testify that about the middle of the month of July last, when the sea was at a quite exceptionally high temperature, they observed two sea serpents, one which completely blockaded a fishing village in Eiviken, three-quarters of a mile from this town. When quietly lying for a whole day within a gunshot distance from the shore, it was noticed by 3even trustworthy witnesses, who, for fear of it, did not show themselves at sea, or set out in a boat to Hammerfest, in order to get a whaler gent out. The sea serpent was of a dark yellow colour, with a round body of at least 180 feet long. It moved with serpentine windings through the water at a great speed. The head was about the size of a barrel, but somewhat more pointed in front, and immediately behind the Jaead the creature had a thick ring intervening between the head and the body, which latter was smooth and without fins. The sea serpent was seen at 24 feet distance by the boat's crew from this town ; also the same day by two other boats' crews, one belonging to Hammerfest, and the other to a neighbouring parish. The reason for not publishing this information until now is that it was wished to obtain a full attestation from several credible and truthful men." _______________
