LEVIN C. C. v. FOXTON C.C.
t ,ittii lmtch oi the season, was played yesterday it Fozton in itfr Easton'B paddock, kindly lent for the occasion, and proved a comparatively easy win for the local |lu'H by v 47 mna. The weather was as if expressly ra'aue for. ctMet,' a good pitch had been ' carefully prepared f a considerable number of spectators were in attendance to admire and the other thing, when necessary ) and so the players bad a good time ori both sides; a fid enioyed themselves as only the cricket ehihiisittst c^ri. The visiting team was ijtroriger' by a iddg way in bowling in batting. Their bowling wjls indeed much above the average and no liberties could be taken with it ; but their batting, especially in the first innings, was " a lot off," and when called on many were found to be " out " or •• not at home." Several Of the local men Were similarly shy* feufc more regular practice Will soon do away with this undesirable modesty in public. For the local team the bowling of Howard and Bell was good, Howard's average in the first innings of 4 wickets for one run being a fine record. The visitors were entertained by the local team at Wbyte's hotel, and Were evidently well pleased by the attention and oare for their physical and spiritual well-being shown by Host Stanaell and his ministering angels. In the absence of Mr Blake, whose illness is greatly regretted by all cricketers, the post of umpire was filled by Mr T. Hibbert and his decision? gave ontiro satisfaction. The Levin umpire was also very impartial and painstaking, and displayed sound knowledge oi the game. We append the Bcores : — Foxtox — First innings. F. Martin, c Ryder, b Staff ...11 A.
