Wreck of the S. S. Wairarapa.
ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN LIVES LOST. The Union Steain Shipping Company's s.s. Wairarapa on her voyage from Sydney to Auckland was wrecked on the Great Barrier Island on Sunday night. The Captain, two of the officers and one hundred and twelve passengers are reported as being lost, the rest of the passengers and crew are saved. Anxiety was felt in Auckland last Tuesday for the s.s. Wairarapa she being then overdue trora Sydney. She left Sydney on Wednesday last at 6 p.m., and was therefore due at Auckland early on Monday morning. The R nomahana, which left 24 hours after the Wairarapa, arrived on Tuesday reports having seen no sign of the Wairarapa.
