Opening of the Foxton Creamery.

Yesterday, morning at an early hour; Mr George Gray, the Manager of the Foxton Creamery, opened its doora for the reception of milk. Owing to some of the settlers being unaware of the date the Creamery would start, and owing to othsr3 not having been able to obtain the necessary milk cans* the quantity of milk delivered was small, only a little over 200 gallons having been received. The start was not all quite plain sailing owing to the newness of all the gearing, but Mr Pole, the com" pany's engineer was preserit and watched the working with the object of easing any tightness in the nlachinery« and do one objected to the delay that was only natural on starting machinery for the first time. Mr Gray was determined that suppliers should not be delayed by him, as he was on the ground at hdlf-past five. Mr George Saiherley succeeded in getting to the dreamery ] first with Mr Whibley a good second, the other places were not recorded. ! We believe Mr Hmith brought the heaviest quantity of milk, than either Messrs Satherley or E>ov?e, both however very close in weights, and Mr Purcell well up. The settlers nearest obliged the ■ Manager by taking the evening milk j up, soas to allow Mr Pole another j run with the machinery. The separator 13 one of De Laval's with an tipper bowl for warming and aeriitiiig' the milk prior to seperating. The engine is a " Soho " of i h.p. and the boiler is one of Luke's manufacture of 6 h.p. This firm has made ten boilers this season for the N.Z. Dairy Union. Every convenience is supplied, there being plenty of hot and cold water, and the building, though small, is compact and substantial. Mr Andrew Jonson had the contract for the building and appears to lme executed his work well. It is a satisfaction to have such a useful industry started in our midst, and one which must be of very much benefit to the landowner, large or small. Within a few days the supply of milk will be considerably increased when all guarantors have obtained their cans.
