Fire at a Hemp Mill.

We are sorry to have to record that yesterday afternoon a portion of the Messrs Symons' hemp mill at Foxton was destroyed by fire. The origin of the fire ia, as usual, a mystery. Scutching had ceased for a while, the s.s. Moutoa had just passed, and then suddenly a blaze. The idea is that if the spark which caused the fire did not come from the stationary engine it might have from the steamer. By hard work a great deal of the mill was saved but the scutching shed and press was burnt and a very small quantity of flax, the most having fortunately been carted to the railway wharf in the morning.
