Mrs Macdonell, the principal owner of Achill Island, on the western cnasi; of County Mayo, Ireland, has brutally assaulted. Her skull was battered in, and the nose severed from the face, There is little hope of her recovery. The house was also set on fire. A former agent of the estate has been arrester! on suspicion. The Victorian, New Zealand and Queensland stalls at the Dairy Ex-> hibition attract many visitors. The Victorian butter is highly approved. The New Zealand stall is built of local wood. Nelson Bros, display in it m«it thawed by their new process. A New Zealand dairy exhibit took the first prize, a silver medal. Victoria did not compete. Victoria's butter at the Dairy Exhibitien is I very attractive. The public are much interested, and make many enquiries. New Zealand makes an excellent display of butter and cheese. Experts praise the richness of New Zealand cheddar, and pronounce it superior to American and Canadian. Two offers have been made to buy the whole exhibit.
