Wreck of a Steamer.

_ « The Rodonflo struck on the Pollock Reef, off Cape Arid (south coast of Western Australia), at 2 a.m. on Sunday, and became a total wreck. The schooner Grace Darling reports that she picked up a boat containing 12 survivors of the steamer Rodondo, which came to 1 grief while bound from Adelaide to Albany. One passenger shot himself while I in the water. i The boat picked up left South-* Bast Island in charge of the chief officer to get assistance. After picking up the boat the schoonor made South- East Island at dawn. Particulars show that the vessel struck in smooth water, floated for 12 hours, and then sank stern foremost. The first to reach the schooner was a boatload of women and children, and the officers and crew working their hardest, by noon all 1 were safely transferred. The conduct of the firemen was most disgraceful. When the ship struck they with a number of passengers rushed two of the boats. Their weight brought down the davits, and all were hurled into the water, some paying lhe penalty with their lires. So far as can be ascertained, the missing passengers are Messrs Falls, Parry and Wormwood. Those saved number 160 passengers and 86 of the crew. The Rodondo was far out of her course, which is accounted for by a large boiler on deck affecting the compasses. — Press Association.
