CORRESPONDENCE.
We are not responsible for the statements or opinions of correspondents. DO THE EDITOR Otf TiiE MAJUWATC HfilliLtf. Sib, — I desire to direct the attention of, your readers .to a suggestion signed •' Jrlnhts." iriiHe' daily Post; tHat fed AiSticiation should be formed of the nidi'e eHlightened and logical tliinkers, to make an effort to direct the opinions of the main body of electors into healthier channels than they occupy at present, and combat the crude theories, and Bantam Legislation of our present leaders. Hard experience is teaching men there must be something wrong, either in the principals or the practice of the new liberalism, and that the present state of matters should not exist in a thinly inhabited country like this, blessed with every natural advantage, practically free of the policy of the old world, and with our destinees in our own hands, and thus indicating that the evils we suffer are of our own creation, and the sooner men learn where they violate the immutable moral laws, the sooner they will escape the inevitable results, and the better for us all. lint this cannot occur until they are bettor informed in the operation of those laws and interference of faulty social regulations. This must be the duty of the proposed Association teaching in short and readable essays, the true principles and practice of political and social economy, and showing that all the proud discoveries of our new lights are but tried and rejected systems, old as history itself, for as Socialism was the natural result of a feeble civilisation, forcing men closer for mutual defence, so individualism is the natural development of modern liberty itself, being" the result of juster views of the rights and duties of men towards each other, though it must be admitted very much more has to be learnt by all in this direction.
