Monday, October 1. The Speaker took the chair at 2.80 p m. The Mining Act Amendment Bill and the Native Lands Validation of Titles Ac!; Amendment Bill were read a first time. The Minister for Labour said he could not ask the House to agree with all the amendments made by the Legislative Council in the Factories Bill. The motion disagreeing with certain amendments was agreed to, and representatives were appointed for a conference. There was considerable discussion on the question of re-committing the Government Advances to Settlers Bill. When the Bill was committed, the Colonial Treasurer accepted the amendment for the reduction of the minimum of advances from £50 to £25. A new clause, embodying certain provisions to apply to every mortgage of leasehold land, was added to the Bill. The third reading of the Bill was carried by 86 votes to 11. The Bill was then passed. . The House adjourned at 1.20 a.m. Tuesday, October 2. The Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p.m. The Foreign Insurance Companies Bill was read a third time and parsed. The Native Land Court Bill was considered in committee and progress reported. The House rose at 1.55 a.m.
