Foxton Cricket Club.
The annual meeting of the Foxton Cricket Club was held in White's Hotel last evening, and:there was a good representative attendance of . members. Mr J. Dudson occupied the chair. The secretary (Mr W. S. - Stewart), read the annual- report, : and submitted the balance-sheet, ; which showed a credit balance of ,£1 4s. The following is the secretary's report ;— - Annual Report of Foxton {J.C. : for . the season 1893-4. To the President and members o£ ■'- the Foxton CO., Gentlemen,—! have pleasure in submitting to you the balance-sheet for the past season, showing a fcie^ib balance of £1 4s. During the season the Club played five challenge matches, winning one and losing fottr/againßC Sauson, Carnarvon, and Shannon. Owing to circumstances the return match with Shannon did not come off. In most of the games the want of steady,^ regular practice was painfully maui-^ feat. '.All through the ; season- great [ • difficulty was experienced in getting! the playing members to roll -rip for practice on the home ground. This may, perhaps, in some measure be accounted for by the depression id the flax business, which hung-like a heavy pall over the town and district. Men appeared not -to have -h,earfrir en-nigh even to" 'amuse "themselves. But as this disheartening state^ of things seems now: to be 'passing ? nway, more regular -practice maybe expected, and as a consequence greater saGcess, .in .tke,...poming season. ; : : ! • \ . ;-; -.• I •'! ,?f. \ The trophy for Hie highest b<swKtg average Was won by Mr , Howard, who secured the highly respectable average of 5^ per wicket. I have pleasure in stating that a trophy for the best batting average in the coming season has already been promised by Mr McMillan, Vice-President, and it is to be hoped that this admirable example may prove , iufepy tious. ■•".•■•. •■.:';■ /;■ I have the honour, &c, .;.%" Wj S.
