The Speaker took the chair at 7.80 p.m. V : The following Bills were read a first time :— Government Advances to Settlers Bill, Foreign Insurance Companies' Deposits Bill, Stamp Aots Amendment Bill and Hastings Borough Loan Validation and Empowering Bill. Mr G. Hutchison proposed the second reading of the Tbwn Distriots Bill, enabling the functions of local goverjinent to be extended to small towns. The second reading was carried on the voices. The second reading of the Coroners' Inquests Bill providing for the payment of coroners' juries, and also that the dead-house of -a hospital shall be a public morgue, in order that the necessity of taking dead bodies to hotels may be obviated. The second reading was agreed to. : Mr Hone Heke proposed the Native Rights Bill, which after a debate was counted out. The House rose at l-l p.m..* - N : **-, ... ■ ..... " ■"-. w <*/ Tuesday, September 11. The Speaker took the chair at - 2.80 p.m. The Destitute Persons Bill, was . read a third time and passed. The debate on the seoond reading, of the Railways Bill was resumed. ' During the debate Mesirs Mitchelson, Buiok and Bell spoke -against the Bill. The second reading was carried by 45 votes to 18. The second reading of the Rating^ of Crown Lauds Bill was after a^ very short discussion carried by 27 votes to 23. , The House adjourned at 12.85 ' a.m.
