A Lady's Letter.
# Wellington, Sepfc. 4tb, 1894. Mrs John Duncan gave a delightful little dance last Friday evening, there being only about 20 couples and all these were dancing people. The drawing-room was used for dancing and the dining-room for supper, which was prettily; laid out and decorated. There were several Scotch reels on the programme and the dance did not break up until 1 p.m. Mrs Duncan wore a lovely grey moire gown and Miss Duncan wore white silk and lace. Among the guests were Mrs Dowell, Mrs A. Pearce and the Misses Johnston, Cooper, Grace, 'Williams, Cara Russell, Gore and Gibson (of Dunedin,) and Capt. and Mrs Stewart and Lady Augusta: Boyle. On the following night, the concert in aid of the aged and needy took place at the Theatre Royal, there being a large and fashionable audience, which included His Excellency the Governor, Lady Augusta Boyle, who wore white, Captain Clayton and tbe Hon. James Boyle and' also Mrs H« D. Belli Mrs and the Misses Menzies, -Mr and Mrs Mantell, the Misses 'Williams, Mrs and Misses Friend, Df and Mra Adams, Mrs Rhodes, Miss S. Johnston, Miss Buchanan, (of Akaroa), Mr and Mrs Powles, and many others. The first- part consisted of Nigger Minstrel songs by a party of gentlemen, the second^ a collection of songs and instrumental music and songs by amateurs, the only thing worth mentioning being Mr Patteison's recitation " The Cookie &hine" which /was • really splendid. The third part* consisted of a locally produced farce, whioh might well have been omitted, having little, if anything, to commend, it. Last night Mrs Johnston vfitewarfc gave a large children's party at Government House, there being about 60 little and big children, both boys and girls present. It wa| given for the Hon. James Boyle,*iho is home from school (WanganoLj Collegiate School) for the holidays; and who had among the guests all the Wanganui football team. Ifr was an exceedingly pretty sight to see them all dancing in light frocks ana velvet suits in the largest ballroom to the strains of J£jju^hß band. Mrs Stewart received^a green satin veiled with cream striped gauze and Lady Augusta Boyle wore white with a yellow Empire sash. The Ladies Alice and Dorothy Boyle wore very pretty yellow muslin frocks trimmed with white lace and yellow silk sashes. Among the guests were
