HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Wednesday, September 5. The Speaker took the chair at 2.80 p.m. Mr G. W. Russell moved that the report of the Railway Committee concerning the Westport Cardiff Company's petition, and the minutes of the evidence taken, be printed. Eventually it was agreed to print the report and the evidence. On the motion of the Premier a committee was appointed to determine the proper date for the general holiday in honor of the anniversary celebration of the foundation of the Colony. The Public Works Bill was read a second time without debate, and sent to the Statutes Revision Committee. The amendments made by the Council in the Kaitangata Relief Fund Transfer Act Amendment Bill were agreed to. The Minister of L tnds moved the second reading of the Lake Forsyth Drainage Bill, and explained that it provided merely that a small endowment of land be given to the Akavoa County Council for the purpose of draining water out of Lake Forsyth, which was left after a flood in that locality. After some debate the second reading was agreed to, the Minister stating that he would have no objection to the Bill going to the Local ; Bills Oomuaittee.
