- Fbidat, Atjgujst 17. t The, Speaker took the chair at 2.80 The Wellington Reclaimed Land Bill was read a first time. A resolution that the House should meet on Monday evening for the consideration of local Bills was agreed to. The Land for Settlements Bill was further considered in committee. An amendment to clause 10 by Mr Earnahaw to limit the amount to be borrowed to £150,000 was lost by 41 votes to 12. Also another amendment by the same member reducing the sum to £200,000 in one year was lost. Mr G. Russell's amendment to clause 17 so that the -rental of the land should be 1 per cent, in excess of the interest on the capital value instead of at the rate of 5 per cent, was lost by 42 votes to 8. Mr G. Bussell's amendment to clause 19 that lands be revalued evesy 30 years was lost by .40 votes toll. .
Mr G. Bus3ell's amendment to restrict the avea of the holdings was lost by 87 votes to 9. After a lengthy sitting, the House ;H9t, adjourning till 5 a m. on Satur* day morning, Mr Pirani's amendment was withdrawn, the Minister promising to consider the matter and see if a new * clause could be framed to* meet the case.
