The Times' correspondent at Washington reports that there is some likelihood of an agreement upon the tariff at last. It is proposed to adopt the Bill passed by the Senate as a basis, with a duty on sugar of 10 per cent. A Polar expedition, under the charge of Mr F. G. Jackson, F.R.G.S., has started from Archangel. The English wheat market is un changed, the Continental dull, and the American changing a little for the better. The cargo of Adelaide wheat ex Calcutta, sold for 22s 6d. Tallow— Medium mutton, 23s 6d ; beef, 225. A shipment of Australian honey sold at 5d per lb. The Pall Mall Gazette thiuks that the triumph of Free Trade in New South Wales will be of great benefit to the Victorian opponents of Protection. Dr W. G. Grace and Mr Murdoch were mobbed by a crowd at Bristol who disagreed with the decision of the umpire to postpone the match between Gloucester and Sussex on account of the weather.
