China and Japan.
A telegram from Shanghai states that war has actually been declared between China and Japan. Several Chinese warships have met with mishaps. Information is meagre owing to communication with Corea being interrupted.
Lloyd's have received a telegram confirming the declaration of war.
It is reported that the Japanese troops hnve captured the King of Corea.
The Chinese Government is making large purchases of war material in America.
It is rumoured that in a naval battle with Japan the Chinese suffered disaster.
The transport which the Japanese sank on Tuesday was the Kawshung, belonging to Matheson and Co., and chartered by the Chinese to convey troops to Corea, It is reported that all on board were drowned.
The capture of the King of Corea by the Japanese is confirmed.
