A Ship Struck by Lightning,

On the passage from Foxton the captain of the Queen of the South noticed a barque at anchor under Kapiti Island. On speaking to her it was found to be the barque Thurso, which left Wellington for Newcastle on Wednesday last. It appears that during the thunderstorm on Friday last the mainmast of the barque was struck by lightning, which destroyed the whole of the ropes connected with the sails, bringing them down with a run. The barque, at once put . back, and arrived under Kapiti on Sunday. It was found on examination that .the main top-gallant mast was injured, and the barque will probably wait at the island until repairs are; effected* — N.Z. Times. .
