Wednesday, July 18. The Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p.m.

The following Bill were read a first time : — An Act to amend the Criminal Code Act ; Teachers' Court of Appeal Bill ; Onehunga Cemetery Bill and the Mount St. John Eeserve Bill ; Native Rights Bill.

Major Steward moved the second reading of the Shearers' Accommodation Bill providing that proper accommodation should be given to

shearers.

After a discussion this was agreed to.

The second reading of the Threshing Machine Owners' Lien Bill was agreed to. Mr J. A Millar moved the second reading of the Employers' Private Benefit Society Bill. He said he would ask that the Bill should be referred to the Labour Bills Com mittee, so that employers concerned might give evidence if they wished.

The second reading was passed and the Bill referred to the Labour Bills Committee.

Dr Newman's Bill to admit women as members went into Committee and after a long discussion, the motion to report progress was carried bv 28 votes to 24.

A proposal to have the Bill recommitted on Thursday was rejected, the Bill being thus shelved.

The House adjourned at 1.15 a.m

Thursday, July 19. The Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p.m. The Fire* Brigades Bill was read a first time; The second reading of the Pohangina County Bill was carried by 53 votes to 7. The Jubilee Institute for the Blind Reserve Bill passed through couiniittee, and the Levels County Bill was read a second time. The Wairarapa Hospital District Bill was talked out. On the question of committing the Pharmacy Bill a good deal of discussion arose and a motion proposed by the Premier that progress be reported was carried by 86 votes to 24.

Mr G. W. Bussell moved the second reading of the Women's Political Rights Bill.

The motion was rejected without debate by 41 votes to 18. The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Bill was passed through committee, and the Bill was then read a third time and passed.

The House adjourned at 1.80 a.m.
