The annual meeting of the above clttb was held at the Club's office, Foxton, on Thursday, the 19th inst., at 7.80 p.m.

There was a fair attendance of the members.

Mr T. P. Williams was voted to the chair.

The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The Hon. Sec. Mr J. R. McMillan then read the report of the Committee as follows : —

Bbport of Committee of Foxton Raci.no Club fob Year esdins July 31st, Soar Committee have much pleasure in printing to you the Twelfth Annual fioport and Balance Sheet of the above Club. . Tb« receipts including a balance from tut pmiout year of £312 10a 5d amount

to £1236 17s 4d and the expenditure £1077 7s sd, leaving a credit balance of £150 9s lid.

Your Committee are glad to report that during the past year the Club has again been financially successful, and would point out that, taking the whole of the Clubs in the Colony (some 131),. the Foxton Racing Club stands 32nd on the list in regard to the amounts given away in stakes, and 25th on the list taking the amounts invested on the Totalisator during the year. The Club having put through £5515.

Your Committee desire to acknowledge the valuable assistance received from th« various officers of the Club during the past year. Several meetings have been held and the Committee now retire acoording to rule.

He then read the balance-sheet as under : —

Balance-shbkt of the Foxton Racing Club— Year ending July 31st 1894.

£1236 17 4 Balance in Bank of N.3. July 81 €159 9 11

J. R. McMiu-an, Hon. Secretary. Walter Romsson, Hon. Treasurer.

Mr Thynne proposed that the report and balance-sheet be adopted. Seconded by Mr P. Dudson. — Carried.

Ml- McMillan, the Hon. Secretary said he desired to draw attention of the members to the position of the Club under the proposed new regulations as to the use of the totalisator. He had been looking into the figures and he found that the Foxton Racing Club had 14 races last year, and £894 per race was invested on the totalisator. The other clubs were as follows, but he, in giving these figures wished to state that he was indebted a great deal to " Peutagraph's " tables published in the N.Z. Referee. It must be understood that only a fair average of the clubs were here given as it would take too long to quote the whole list :—

From this table it will seen that the Foxton Racing Club beat the Feilding Club and ran a dead heat with Woodville and also beat the record of some Metropolitan Clubs. It will also be found that in investments on the totalisator, the Metropolitan Club we belonged to came second as the accompanying table will show. The approximate amounts invested on the totalisator in each race in each Metropolitan district during the year 1893-94 : — Hawke'sßay 209 races £443 per race Wangiinui * 182 „ 433 Wellington I(S9 „ 42$ Canterbury 287 „ :iO;S West Coast S.I. 41 „ 29(5 Taranaki 02 „ 293 Auckland 401 „ 262 Otago 425 „ 239 Kelson 59 „ 212 Marlborough 55 „ 108 „ It will be noticed that the Foxton Racing Club's average of £894 per race is in excess of the average shown for the Metropolitan districts of Auckland, Canterbury, Otago, West Coast, Taranaki, Nelson and Marlborough.

A9 the curtailment is proposed of one-third of the present meetings it appears only fair that we should be allowed to retain our two meetings. He would also point out that our meetings are distant 25 miles from any other club. (Applause.)

The Secretary desired to bring forward what is to be the definition of a hack". The old one is as follows : — A hack is a horse that has never won an advertised race (hack and hunter races excepted) ; or is not nominated for any race at date of entry (hack and hunter races excepted). He had suggested an alteration last year so as to widen the meeting to admit better horses. The Otaki club had an extended meaning whioh resulted in a splendid meeting. The new meaning he would suggest is " That hacks shall mean horses that have never won nn advertised race exceeding the net sum of 40 sovs. at time of start (hack and hunter races excepted)." — Carried. Mr J. Purcell suggested some suitable present should be made to Mr Gillies for his services as starter. Mr Border seconded.— Carried.

Mi* Jenks moved that the Com^ mittee be authorised to spend £25 on strengthening the grand stand. Mr Gerbes seconded. — Carried.
