A New Trick.

A gentleman residing in the Rue de Ranelagh the other day received the Visit of an elegantly dressed lady who came to solicit a subscription for an orphan asylum at Passy. No sooner had the visitor been shown into the drawing room than she was seized with a violent fit of hysterics. The alarmed and charitable gentleman rushed into another room and procured a bottle of smelling salts. Eventually the lady " came to," and withdrew with a substantial contribution, aftev expressing her grateful thanks. When she had taken her departure the gentleman discovered that she had taken with her a silver cup and ten 20fr. pieces that were lying on the mantel-piece.
