Foxton Borough Council.
The usual sitting of the above was held last night at 7.30. Present— The Mayor (T. P. Williams), Crs J. E. McMillan, F. E. Jenks, H. Bradcock, J. McPherson, R. Austin and W. Hamer.
The minutes of the last ordinary meeting, and also those of a special meeting held on the 20th June were read and confirmed.
The correspondence received was read as follows : —
From Railway Engineer re sand drift in Main street.
From Mrs M. A. Whyte, calling attention to the length of grass on footpath in Harbor-street, which required immediate attention. From County Clerk, Otaki, v«
publican's license fees. From J. G. Wilson, M.H.R., regarding the amendment; to the Municipal Corporations Act, Section 38.
From the Colonial Seoretary, re same matter.
From Land and Income Tux Department, relating to subsidies.
From Audit Department, returning certified balance sheet for half-year, and also year ending March 31st, 1894.
From A. S. Easton, offering £8 for a pieoe of vacant land on Northern boundary ot section 886.— The Oounoil decided not to entertain the offer.
Prom J. A. Perreau, complaining very strongly of the present management of the Public Library, and agreeing to attend and support his statements.
The Department of Agriculture sent a circular for distribution as to practical suggestions for tree planting on Arbor Day, saying that Wednesday, the Ist August has been selected instead of the 4th as hitherto. The clerk mentioned that since y^last meeting he had seen the Auditor, and was informed that it was not neoessary to get the Go* vernment consent to have the printing of the balance-sheet done in sheet form. The accounts were passed for payment as follows : — Municipal Association, yearly subscription, £2 2s ; J. Sullivan, £6 10a ; sundries, 5s 3 ; Chas. Spring, £7 11s 6d ; R. H. Barber, 9s 7d ; T. F. Gibson, £6 5s ; Lankshear, £1 17s Gel ; Government Printer, 2s 9d ; Manawatu Hebald, £5 Os 6d ; T. P. Williams, travelling expenses to attend Conference, £4 14s 3d ; Palmerston North Hospital Board, £11 17s 2d ; J. McGill, £8 18s 6d ; P. Williams, £1 8a 6d ; Library Account— H. Blake, £1 10s ; B. Spelman, £1 5s ; sundries, £1 14s 6d.
Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Hamer, That Crs Austin, McMillan and Jenks be appointed as a Library Committee to enquire into the charges made by J. A. Perreau ft management of library. — Carried.
Proposed by Cr McMillan, seconded by Cr Austin, That Mrs Whyte's application, together with sand-drift near Family Hotel be left in the hands of. the Public Works Committee.— Carried.
Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Or McPherson, That this Counoil for the future have the balancesheet printed in sheet-form, say 100 copies.— Carried.
) Proposed by Cr McMillan, seconded by Cr Hamer, That the clerk be instructed to notify Mr J. A. Perreau in reference to his charge against the Library Custodian, and stating that the Library Committee will meet him on Friday next, the 18th inst., at 7.80 p.m. in the Council Chamber to take what evideuce htf may bring forward.— Carried.
