What a relief to the whole of the inhabitants of the colony is the notice published elsewhere of the reconstruction and resumption of business of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited. For many weary months has there been grave anxiety and much distrust ns to the happy issue of the proposed arrangements, a failure of which meant wide spread ruin and a grave colonial misfortune. We therefore feel a genuine pleasure in chronicling the recommencement ot busin.-ss, which will be conducted even more striclly as to safeguarding the interests of its clients. A clause in the now articles of association, being section 0 clause 3 provides — "To sell or otherwise deal with on i commission, any live or dead stock, I wool or other pastoral farm or . agricultural produce, or any merchandise or other properties of any description upon any terms as to remuneration, or otherwise, that may seem expedient, and particularly upon terms whereby the property in question, and the net proceeds, or balance of net proceeds, of any sale thereof or other dealing therewith, or any property representing the same, are to bo held by the Company as trustees, for the Special Account, and on the special behalf of the Principals and are not, except to the extent of the Company's beneficial interest therein, if any, to be in any way subject to any obligations, debts, or other liabilities of the Company's." In conclusion we trust that the Company may now be entering upon a now era of prosperity and that the rooks upon which it foundered in the past will be avoided in the future.
