A Diamond-mine in France.

A diamond-mine in Pa 3 de-Calais is alleged to be the latest startling discovery, and the rumours concerning it that are floating about Paris, have caused considerable excitement. The company of the mines of Lens are investigating the affair, by sinking several fresh shafts. It seems that when certain workmen, occupied in the pits at Port-a-Yendin, had reached a depth of two hundred metres, they suddenly felt a striking rise in the temperature. In accordance with orders issued by the engineer in command, borings were immediately made, whereupon several gems were brought to the suvfuce. Whether this apparently important discovery will prove a failure, after the manner of the Torquay Gold Mine, remains to be seen.
