The College of Cardinals.

The Papal Annual " Therarchia Cattolica" contains the following interesting items. The college of Cardinals, whose number is fixed at | 70, at present counts only Gl members— 82 Italian and 20 foreign Cardinals. Of the last named, seven are French, namely, the Archbishops of Paris, Eheims, Rouen, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Tours, and the Bishop of Eody, five are Germans, the Prince Aichbishop of Breslau ; the Archbishop, of Cologne, Cardinal Kohenlohe (the former Archbishop of Cologne), Cardinal Crementz, and Cardinal Lsdochonski, the former Archbishop of Porez. Of the Anstro Hungarian members there are likewise five— namely, the Archbishops ot Vienna, Prague, Cracow, Gran, and the Bishop of Grosswandein. There are besides, 4 Spanish, 2 Portuguese, 1 English, 1 Belgian, 1 Irish, 1 Australian, 1 American, and 1 Canadian Cardinal. The youngest member is Cardinal Rampollu, born in 1843. Only two Cardinals are older than the Pope, Cardinal Mertel, born in 1806, and Cardinal Desprez, (Archbishop of Toulouse), who is eighty-five years of age. The total number of titular dignitaries of the Catholic hierarchy (Archbishops, Bishops, Vicars, etc.) at present is 1254. Ninety- three seats are vacant.
