Foxton Borough Council.
The usual monthly meeting' was held last night at the Borough Offices at 7.80. Present—The Mayor (T. P. Williams), Ois McMillan, Jenks, Hamer, Bradcock, Austin and McPherson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence received was read as follows :— From W. G. White, calling attention to the bad state of the culvert on No. 6 Line, adjoining his property, and offering to put a new one in if Council would supply the material. * From Manager Bank of Auatralaaia, saying the application for a loan of £250 was approved. From Police Department, Wellington, referring to the removal of Constable Gillespie, that the request of the Council would be laid before the Minister of Defence on his return to Wellington. From J. Wright Stewart, Wellington, sending a copy of agreement for the purchase of the Carnarvon - Sanson tramway. A petition signed by G. Nye, Mrs E. Rout, B. L. Gower and E. S. Tbynne was presented by the Mayor. The petitioners asked the Councillors to put in a new culvert culvert or a nine inch pipe on No. 1 Line, as the old culverfc was rotten, having been in for the last 25 years, and the one now in was a great deal too high. The Clerk reported that he had written to the Manawatu County Council and Wirokino Road Board re meeting of delegates to confer as to the bridging of the Manawatu, but had received no replies. The following accounts were passed - for payment :— J. Sullivan, £6 15s ; C. Spring, £6 19s ; do., 8s ; T. F. Gibgon, £6 5s ; Court fees and In- , suranoe, 9s; D. Whibley, 15s; P. Reserves account James Coley, £5 12s Gd. Library account— H. Blake, 1 £1 10s. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Or Hairier, That a general rate of
one shilling and three ponce in the pound sterling, and a Library rate of one penny in the pound sterling, be leavied on the rateable value of all properties within the Foxton Borough Council district from the Ist day of March, 1895, &uch rate to become due and payable in one instalment on the sth day ol June 1894, at the Foxton Borough Council Office.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr McMillan, That the petitions of Mr W. G. White, aa well as that of Messrs Nye and others be left in the hands of the Public Works Committee to deal with.— Carried. Proposed by Cr MbMilian, seconded by Cr Jenks, That a reply to Mr J. Wright Stewart's letter, re purchase of tramway be allowed to stand over for the present. — Carried. Proposed by Cr McMillan, seconded by the Mayor, That MiGeorge Coley'g account be passed for payment. — Carried. Proposed by Cr McMillan, seconded by the Mayor, That the clerk write to the Government asking for permission to advertise the yearly balance-sheet in sheet form. —Carried. Proposed by Cr Hamer, seconded by Cr Bradcock, That Mr P. Guerin's account for gorse-outting be not entertained.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Bradcock, seconded by Cr Hamer, That Bye law 11, section 40, be enforced with respeot to the entrance to the rail way platform.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded byCr Hamer, That Or McMillan and the Mayor be appointed to meet delegates re bridges, and the meet* ing be postponed till 21st inst. at 2 p.m. The Council then adjourned.
