SPIRITUALISM.
TO THE EDITOII OP THE MANAWATO HFBAU). Sir, — I was surprised when I read the letter of "Anti-Humbug " in your paper of Thursday — surprised that you should countenance the attempt of any man to speak in a public newspaper of the doings 2, a private individual in his own home, and to say that the meeting at hishouse was " mostly composed of weak-minded and curious women"; surprised also at you applying the term " lunatics " to spiritualists, an you ; did in a parygraph. Your correspondent says, " spiritualism is antagonistic to the teachings of the Christian Church." Let me ask this Christian (?) bigot if Moses and Elias did not appear to Christ and talk with him, some of the disciples being present at the interview. Is this not spiritualism ? "We are told that when crucifixion took place " the saints (not wicked spirits) which slept in the graves went into the holy city and appeared unto many." I could quote other passages which distinctly prove the truth of Spirit return. The resurrection of Christ from the dead is the foundation of the Christian Church and we are told that he came 11 to bring life and immortality to light." The early Christians fully believed in spirit return, as their writings show. And in these days the lost truth is ooming to the front ami the church, though rejecting it, oon tains thousands who have proved that the dead return. " The life of the spirits is as life on earth ; we arc in a cage, they are free, but we can oonverse through the bars." You, sir, published an article the same day ou photographing spirits, anil the article characterised Mumier's pioturea as frauds. I can furnish you with an article in the " English Photographic Journal "—not a spiritualistic papar— and it is there stated that the strictest of test conditions by the Photographic Society the spirits of departed persons appeared on tlvj glass. This gives the lie to the article you published. Scientific men are investigating Spiritualism and its wonderful phenomena— many having already given in their adherence to it, and in every town and village investigation is going on. I can assure you, sir, that " there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamed of in your philosophy," aud if your correspondent will take up the cudgels, and you will allow us to carry on a courteous warfare, your readerß will gather up something new. I am, Ac, Ixion.
