The Possibilities of Bengal Sericulture.
Such possibilities are attracting considerable attention in the silk industry, and at the show recently held at Cossipore, Calcutta, some interesting exhibits of manufactured silk were on view. A piece of silk muslin of an exceedingly fine texture excited special attention, as did also a piece of table cloth, with very choice floral designs, of superior workmanship— entirely a product of the loom. Another feature of the exhibition was the ocular demonstration of the whole process of Tearing silk-wormis in their different stages, the spinning of cocoons, -andr-the-reeling of silk from the latter. The visitors were shown, by the help of a • powerful microscope^ the Pasteur method of getting, the silk-worm eggs free from the germs of the disease known &spebrine t which had been the ruin of French sericulture, and which also militates seriously against the quality of Bengal silk.
