Cardinal Manning and Lord Rosebery.

One of the very last books which Cardinal Manning read was Lord Rosebery's " Lite of Pitt." Some five or six days before his death his attached friend, Mr- « rby Shipley, was calling on the Cardinal, and the conversation turned on Lord Rosebery's book. " I always thought Lord Rosebery a clever man," was the Cardinal's remark; -".but .this book has shown me that he has the mind of a great statesman."
