Belgian Marriages.
A curious item of intelligence in the Belgian News is thafc M. F. L. C. Sfceens, fche " Sheriff of Marriages " afc the Brussels Hotel de Ville, is rapidly making matrimony so attractive that the fees levied for the use of the grand staircase will very soon be doubled. M. Steens has just provided two imposing masters of ceremonies, and every bridegroom now receives a neat and artistic crimson case containing a sort of family register (carnet) bound in strong red cloth, and bearing the arms of the town in gold. This handy little volume commences with the certificate of marriage duly attested by M. Steens under the Sigittum magistratus oppidt Brnxellen--Biß. Next come blank spaces for 12 children, and then 18 pages of miscellaneous information, ranging from vaccination and military service to naturalisation and the poor laws.
