Lawn Tennis Tournament.
Saturday, April 28fcb. Dr Dermer and Mrs Dermer (acr) beat Mr Howard and" Miss Burr (*ls). This match afforded one of the moat obstinate fights seen during the i tournament, fortune favouring first one side and then the other, keeping the onlookers long in surprise. The first set resulted in a win for Dr and Mrs Dermer by 6 games to 5, the second set fell easily to Mr Howard and Miss Burr, who played steadily and well, 6 games to 1. The third set, on which the match hung teemed likely at first to be won easily by Mr Howard and his partner, but when the games were 5 to 1, and vantage all, a ball driven hard by Dr Dermer, which would have gone out of bounds struck Miss Burr. From this point onward game after game was gained by the victors, who had certainly no room to complain of their luck. Eesult— Sets, 2 to 1. Games, 6—5, 1—6, 6—5. Points, 87 to 91. The final in the doubles will be played off on Wednesday, 3rd May.
