Artesian Water at Wanganui
♦ — Mr Smith, the artesian well shikar, has been most successful in getting a flow of water for Mr W. H. G. Foster behind the latter's hotel on Taupo.Quay. The original contract waf , we believe, for 200 ft, at which depth a fairly good flow was obtained, but Mr Foster had enterprise enough to agree to a further sinking of 50ft, in order to make a proper test and |£tf ft realty good. supply, On Wednesday Hr Smith succeeded in taping"'what he describes as the best supply he has ever seen through a 2-inch pipe at a depth of 245 ft, the water rising 26ft from the surface, so that Mr Foster will be able to lay a service from the well all over the hotel. With a stand pipe 3ft above the ground the supply is fully 60 gallons per minute. Mr Foster is to be congratulated on the success of bif enterprise, and Mr Smith to be commended for the quickness in whioh he has carried out his contract, Mr Smith's next contract is for the loekey Club, who are going to have a well sunk on the raoecourse. The success of the boring at Foster's Hotel should give the people of Waoganii plenty of heart as regards the t jDauibility of a certain and . parmlnient supply of artesian water.—
