Frozen Meat.

The Wellington correspondent of the Auckland Star telegraphs :— The New Zealand Shipping Company having accepted so much dead meat and produce freight from Australia this season, has caused a glut of frozen mutton locally awaiting shipment. Shippers allege that there should be extra boats in February and March, but the New Zealand Company has not, it appears, complied with this necessity. In February tho Ruahine was the only boat and the Kaikoura in March, while the only extra cargo ship of this year filled up eutirely in Australia. On the other hand the arrangements of the Shaw-Saville Company, I am informed, were ample. As to the meat awaiting shipment, the companies in this province have about 6000 carcases in store, but it is hoped these will be got away during the next four weeks. The busiest part of the season is now pa9t, the number now killing for export being about 2000 daily, and this will be a diminishing quantity weekly. Most of the old sheep are now disposed of. It is questionable if the young sheep, twotooths will be sufficiently forward during the present season to make freezers in this district. The latest cables advise the London market almost bare of New Zealand mutton, the demand being increased by the English drought of last year. Present prices will not, however, be long sustained, as within the next three weeks the Gothic, Ruahine, Perthshire, and Waikato will have arrived in London. There will, in r.-und numbers, be 860,000 frozen sheep, chiofly from New Zealand.
