Manawatu County Council.

The ordinary monthly meeting; was held at Sanson yesterday, nt 11 a.m. Present — Crs. Ransom ( Chairman), W. Taylor, J. G. Wilson, and T. Masters. Crs. Robinson, A. Strung, and H. Hammond were also present after the dinner adjournment. From P. E. Daniell, enclosing £10, and requesting that a lease of Rangiti'iei Ferry Reserve be prepared for 14 years. From C. H. Burgess, offering to carry out the metalling contract on Taipo-Awahuri road, at the price that the late contractor had. From J. Wilson, ferryman at Shannon, saying he required new gear. From Thos. Edwards, Motoa, calling attention to the state of road drain in front of his property. From Chrb. Stern, F. and H. Hocken asking that alterations be made to rate-roll in respect to their properties. From Manager Bank of Austral asia, Foxton, re overdraft. From W. K. Simpson, making a claim of £9 15s under " The Contractor's and Workmen's Lien Act, 1892," upon the monits due to J. Cotterill, a contractor to the Council. From J. Cotterill, objecting to the above claim, but admitting a liability of £7 ss. From Walter Rutherfurd, secretary Hospital Board, saying they had allocated the proportion of expenditure for hospital and charitable aid purposes for year 1894-95. From J. B. Heywood, secretary to the Treasury, notifying that the £1,500 loan for the construction of Foxton-Shannon road was now available. From Cr. Wilson, saying that he and Cr. Masters had agreed that £150 should he spent on the Hal" come-Feilding road, and had called for tenders for the work. From Francis Sklenars, objecting to a road in Wear-street, Campbelltown, being fenced in by Mr John Bottcher, as it was the only outlet from his property in bad weather. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Wilson, That the clerk place the names of Francis William Hocken and Hugh Bowden Hocken on the roll as owners of Sections No. 57, 58, Oroua Downs, and also make the alteration in the rate-book asked for by Chris. Stern in his letter to the council. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Masters, That Mr Henry

Duoker be allowed to erect a gate across Wear-street, Campbelltown, in accordance with his letter of March 26th.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Wilson, seconded by Cr Taylor, That J. Cotterill be allowed an extension of time of one week to complete his contractsCarried. Proposed by Or Taylor^ "seconded by Cr Strang, That the Chairman make the necessary arrangements with the bank re overdraft of £1000. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the chair* man take the necessary steps to have a draft of a lease of Scott's Ferry Eeserves for a term of 14 years, drawn in favor of P. E. Daniell.-— Carried. Proposed by Cr Wilson, seconded by Cr Masters, That Cr Wilson's action in calling for tenders for clearing the Halcombe-Feilding road be approved of.— Carried. The following tenders were received for clearing on the Halcombe Feilding road:-J. Lukafaski, 2s 3d per chain ; B. Dafter and J. Loal;, Is 9d ; C. Dowry, 2s 6d. . Proposed by Cr Wilson, seconded by Cr Hammond, That Dafter and Leafs contract for clearing on Halcombe-Feilding road be accepted. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Taylor, That notice be given that it is the intention of the Council at a special meeting to be held on the 9th May to strike a General County rate of £ of a penny in the £ on the rateable value of all the rateable property in the Manawntu County, for the year ending 81st March," 1895, and that the same shall be payable in one sum at the County office, Sanson, on 20th May, 1894.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Robinson, That notice be given that it is the intention of tbia Council at a special meeting to be held on the 9th of May to strike a separate rate of £ of a penny in the £ on the rateable value of all the rateable property within each of the ridings of Sandon, Carnarvon, Kawa Kawa, and Awahou, and a separate rate of 8-Btha of a penny in the 4 on the rateable value of all the rateable property within the ridings of Campbell, and Waitohi, and J ot a penny in the £ on the rateable value of all the rateable property within the Riding of Mount Stewart, in the Manawatu County for the year ending 81st March, 1895, and that the same shall become dusj*ad payable in one sum at the County office, Sanson, on May 20th, .1894. — Carried.
