/- Scott, the missing witness in the /Ardlamont murder case, has surrendered to the police. Scott informed the editor of the Pall Mall Gazette that in order to put an end to his existence as an outlaw, he went to Scotland Yard, butt in the absence of a warrant the 'itispeotev refused to take him into custody. Meuuier and another Anarchist have bee arrested in London on suspicion of being concerned in the explosion in the Cafe Very in 1892. Meunier was on the point of leaving for Antwerp, and was only arrested after a desperate struggle. The cession of the Parnellites and the Healy section is seriously weakening the Government in connection with the debate on the scheme for the Scotch Grand Committee. A Bill was introduced in the House of Commons providing that pensions be limited to persons over 65 years of age, and that they be made partly self-supporting, the amount of the pensions to range from 7s to 3s 6d •per week. Mr Shaw-Lefevre, president of the local Government Board, said the proposal would cost the State fouiv. teen millions sterling. Tho debate on the measure was adjourned, pending the receipt of the report of the Royal Commission which was set up to consider the question of pensions. In the election for the Middle Division of Lanarkshire, Mr Caldwell, the Liberal candidate, was returned by a majority of 880 votes. Ministers opposed the measure. The following committee has been set up to enquire into the working of the Irish Land Act :— Right Hon. John Morley, Mr T. M. Healy. Mr E. Carson, Mr Thomas Sexton, Mr J. L. Wharton, Mr J. A. Willcox, Mr TV W. Russell and E. F. V. Knox.
