A bomb was exploded at the entrance of the Church of La Made line in the city. The author of the outrage was killed instantly, his body being terribly mutilated. On the remains being searched, a copy of a photograph of Bavachol, the Anarchist leader executed some time ago, was found in one of his pockets. The police authorities believe that the explosion was premature, and that the bomb was intended to do its deadly work during the progress of the service. The- remains of the author of the outrage have been inentified as those of an Anarchist named Pauwels, who was employed at the chemical factory of Paul Bochiss. The missile was found to be com posed of a chloride and some long nails. Eye-witnesses of the affair state that Pauwels had placed the bomb in position, but that in trying to es cq.pe he accidentally kicked it causing it to explode. The whole mass of nails lodged in the man's stomach, for he was so close to the bomb that they had not time to scatter. Otherwise more people would probably have been killed. Three men have bean arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the outrage. The Chartered Company's agents at Buluwayo have learnt that on December 3rd Lobnngula sent messengers from his camp with a present of £1000 and instructions to inform the British officers that he was willing to surrender. The messengers delivered the verbal message, and handed the money to two troopers of the Imperial Police Force, who are now under arrest on suspicion of theft. They are also to bd charged with concealing the terms of surrender from their officers, whereby th.\y are morally answerable for the death of Lobengula and the slaughter of Major Allan Wilson's detachment. The Chamber of Deputies by a m-jority of 111 votes rejected a proposal made by M. Goblet to abolish the Senate. Fifteen thousand file workers in Marseilles have struck work in an endeavour to reduce the daily hours of labour to ten. Some uneasiness has been caused by the disappearance of the King of the Belgians. These freaks, however, on his part have not been unusual of late. The Salta Court has dismissed the first charge against Jabez S. Balfour, for absconding from England with £20,000. He is to be tried on 16 other charges.
