H.M.S. Pinafore.

» -- To-night this excellent amateui' opera company reproduce the above opera at the Public Hall at popular prices. We have nothing to add or to fubstract from our last notice, and we advise those who have not yet seen it to do so to-night. ! Below we have the pleasure of publishing the Balance Sheet of the first performance of the above Amateur Opera Company. It will be noted that iv despite of having to provide new scenery, books of the words of the opera, music, and a professional orchestra, the result shows a balance of £8 3s Od. This the company can very well pride themselves upon, as in thfl history of New Zealand we believe that more 'often the first performances of an amateur opera company show a less not a profit, and it may be claimed that th« result obtained by our amateurs i$ unique. Though " greatly to their credit " part of this happy result must be credited to tht performers who at no small cost to them selves, found their own dresses and uniforms. In addition to this profit the company hold as a good asset about 120 copies of the libretto, and certain stage properties valued at close on £3. This sum of £8 3s 9d really represent! a gaiu to the Hospital, with the addition of the Government subsidy, of £18, which must be claimed by one and all ft mo»t satisfactory result.
