-• At Fillis' circus on the 22nd at Auckland it was announced that a horse would be given as a prize to ticket-holders. As the performance was about to commence, the police took the names of Air Fillis and the employees concerned, and informed Mr Fillis that if the proposed arrangement was carried out, it would be regarded as a breach of the Gaming and Lotteries Act. Mr Fillis said ho had never h^n interfered with before, and wanted to argue the point, but the police was n'rra and the proprietor of the circus fcr "abandoned the scheme and gave prizes to the public for races in the ring instead.
