Large numbers of London vestrymen and members of the House of Commons attended a mass meeting m Trafalgar Square, when the (opposition of the House of Lords to the Parish Councils Bill and the reforms urgently needed in the Franchise was characterised as a degrading stigma on the liberty of the masses. It is believed that the drastic measures which are to be taken by • the police for the repression of the Anarchists will have the desired effect. Thousands of people visited Greenwich on Sunday to see the place where the bombs exploded. At a meeting of the members of the Automatic Club, violent speeches were made in praise- of Vaillant, advocating a repetition of his outrage I in London. The police are watching the railway stations and noting the arrivals and departures of Anarchists. . The French official explanation of the attack on the British troops at \Varina is that it was caused by a native chief, who alleged that they

The House ol' Lords has reinstated Lord Dudley's amendment respecting " contracting out " in the Employers' Liability Bill. Mr Gladstone moved the final rejection ol fche amendments made by the Upper House. The advanced Radicals are clamouring for tho initiation of a cany paign against the House of Lords, but" the Premier declines fco agree to the demand. The Government intends to drop fche Scotch Fisheries Bill. The Home Secretary, replying to a deputation, declined to strengthen the law to allow the expulsion of Anarchists and those suspected of being connected with them. He said, however, that the Government was anxious to co-operate with other conn tries in adopting practical measures for dealing with the Anarchists, and favoured a more constant interchange of information and combined action, both punitive and protective, between the countries concerned. One ot the papers seized at the Anarchist Autonomic Club is of im« mense importance to the foreign Powers, who have been apprised of ifcs contents by telegraph.
