Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, FEB. 15, 1894. An Important Visitor.

Mo-morrow the Burgesses of Foxtou will have the opportunity of meeting the Premier of the Colony, and it is one we hope they will make the best use of. When saying this we do not advocate the presenting of innumeiv. able and impossible requests to him, but that they will endeavour to do honour to him whom it has pleased our Representatives to elect to rule over us. The Hon. Richard Seddon must be met and treated with that respect his position as the first man in the Colony, after the Governor, entitles him to. We do not agree with many of .the political views held by Mr Seddon, but as he has obligingly put himself to inconvenience to visit us, we hope all will vie to make his trip a pleasant one, and show him the district. We believe much more, good will arise from taking these steps than would from asking for things impossible for him to grant. It has pleased the Premier to refer to Foxton as an out-of the-way place, but if the opportunity is availed of, he will learn that he spoke inadvisedly, and will for the future pay a little more attention to the requests preferred from the inhabitants of this town. The port, so valuable to those mining districts of th other Island which Mr Seddon has thoroughly at heart, should be described so that he will see of what importance it is to the miles of country lying around it. Travellers by rail invariably form an erroneous impression of the capabilities of the soil by riding through the Hiniatangi run, and thus a trip to some elevated portion of the suburbs, from whioh the Motoa swamp and the country the other side of the river could be viewed, would be a most useful object lesson. We believe that the Premier is justly desirous of making himself acquainted with the district and now that he has fixed a date to visit us, we must make the very best use of his presence. On Friday evening Mr Seddon has promised a political address ; we may know all that he is going to say, or it may be something quite new, but new or old the Premier is well worth listening to, and we trust a packed house | will greet him.. ...On. behalf of the Burgesses we bid him a cordial greeting and trust he will remember for many a day in kindly feeling his visit to us.
