Lawn Tennis Tournament.
Thuksday, February, Ist. The openiug match of the Ladies' Singles was played between Mrs McMillan and Miss Purcell. The game was rather one sidod., the first two sets being easily won by Miss Purcell, whose swift service more than counter balanced her opponent's big handicap. Result— 6— 2, 6— 2, the 3rd set not being played. Wednesday, Februky 7th. Miss-Burr defeated Miss- ••Austin. This was a very even contest and
gave rise to some interest. The is3ties were for a time doubtful, Miss Austin's agility and strength almost but not quite, gaining her the victory. Miss Burr's greater experience, and steady play stood her in good stead, and enabled her to score a win. Result— 6 -3, 3 -G, 6-2. Mr McMillan's protest in his match with Mr McOrea was disallowed by the Tournament Committee.
