The attention of those interested in the progress of Temperance is directed to the Good Templar announcement in our advertising columns. We are informed that the quarterly meeting of the District Grand Lodge is to be held on next Wednesday, and the members of the local lodge have in a brotherly spirit availed themselves of the occasion to invite their brothers and /sisters of all the lodges in the district to a little social meeting. Replies have been received indicating that sixty visitors from the Bulls, Sandon, and Campbelltown lodges will be present, and others from more distant places . Everything promises a great success. After the tea and whil e the hall is being cleared for the : ooncert to follow the Good Templars propose to march in procession somewhere headed by a band, making night musical in fact with sympathetic notes. For the concert a really good programme has been got up, embracing not only the best musical talent of the district near nnd far, but also a carefully selected variety of its oratorical power. 'I he public generally are invited to attend both tea and concert. Tickets ono shilling each to bo obtained at the door, and we are satisfied that all will get full value for their money, to say the least. Mass will be hold at St. Mary's, Fox ton, on Sunday at 11 o'clock and evening service at half-past six. - Mass will be held on Sunday at Shannon at 8 a.m. A public meeting will be held at the Library on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. {or the purpose of forming a bucket brigade and salvage corps. Messrs McMillan Rhodes <fc Co hold an auction sale of general goods on Saturday. It is probable that the railway authorities might be induced to run a special train to Palmerston on the visit of the opera company, Brough-Boucicault, should sufficient inducement offer. Those desirous of going should therefore mention the matter to the station-master. Mr B. Ellery Gilbert will be in town tomorrow to make his usual professional visit. All Saints' Church waß prettily decorated on Sunday for the harvest festival services. There were sheaves of oats and barley in the chancel and in front of the Holy Table were piled fruit, vegetables and grapes. The font was very prettily decorated by Mrs Wilson and Miss N. Ray. The other decorations were the work of the Misses Trask, J. Ray, Steel and the Rev. and Mrs Aitkens. Thanks are due to Messrs Cowles and Mitohell for>packing up and forwarding these offerings to the Palmerston hospital. MrAitkenu conducted the evening service' and preached from Acts, 14.17. - The collection amounted to 375. The contributions were :— Mrs Alzdorf, marrow ; MrsT. Wilson, apples ; Mrs Nye. grapes and apples; Mrs R. Andrews, apples, tomatoes, potatoes, pumpkins i Mrs Mitchell, marrows ; Palmer, marrows, carrots and apples ; Mrs Bag ton, ououmbers, plums and onions ; Mrs Ray, pumpkin; Mrs Trask, beans and rhubarb; Mr Thyrine, oats and apples ; Mr Cowles, plums; Rev. Aitkens, apples, marrow, plums ; Mr Barber, oats ; a friend from Sandon, oats and barley. ° Elder G.T. Wilson wilt hold religious meetings on Friday, Saturday, and, Sunday. The Otaki Maori Racing Club presented Mr Lyon with a handsome wooden cup and a korowai mat, as a -jepognitio^ of the courteous nianner in which he had at all times treaM^hem. The presentation was made last week at Otaki, and the formalities were wound up. with a dan.cc. t j o I Mr Kebbell sold twenty two : tobth Romney rams at the Palmeraton Fair at an i average of one and a quarter guineas.
