Captain Williams,: who was one of the party following up the Matabele, had his horse shot under him. He was surrounded by natives, and, as he refused to surrender, was shot dead. Several others of the party were killed after their revolvers became empty. , The pope ia appealing to the Czar to modify the treatment to which Polish Roman Catholics are subjected.
