CONDENSED CABLEGRAMS.
London. Some of the evidence adduced at the trial of Monsoh 1 fof the Ardlamdttt murder is of a revolting character. Trial experiments have been made on dead bodies in the mortuary in Edinburge, with a view of ascertaining the effect of shot on the human body, and the force, of its penetration. Judging from the evidence thus obtained, the shot which killed Lieut. Hamborough must have been fired at a distance of nine feet. In the House of Commons, the Premier will move an amendment to Lord George Hamilton's motion, urging the increase of the Navy, to the effect that the House relies on the Ministry to submit a fitting proposal respecting the Navy in due time. The discussion will be taken on Tuesday. The Bishop of Cork has been elected Primate of Ireland, to succeed the late Dr Knox. Mr Bruce, Conservative, has been returned unopposed for the vacant seat of Brighton, caused by the resignation of Sir W. T. Marriott. In announcing the Christmas vacation in the House of Commons, Mr Gladstone said that owing to the Obstruction practised by the Opposition he was compelled to restrict the holidays to five days. Mr Balfour retorted that the Government were attempting to trample on and coerce the Opposition. The Government refuse fco abandon the poor law clauses in the Parish Councils Bill, though their retention imperils the passage of the measure.
