The Hawke's Bay Flood

♦ The Hawke's Bay Herald says : — rhe loss oaused to Mr Midgley at Roysfcon by the floods is very great. Hia flock of sheep numbered 250Q, md he lost every one except 150. Mr Orraond has lost over £1000 in Instruction of orops at Karauiu, and it is expected that Captain Russell's loss will amount to nearly as much, rhe flood was especially severe in the Wallingford district. The roadiiian, who with his family resided in

a house near the Wallingford bridge upon a section given to him by Mr Orraond, lost everything he had in the world, house included. The waters rose so rapidly that the family had some difficulty in getting away with their lives to higher ground, leaving behind them -all their belongings. The house was smashed in fragments by the rushing flood. Mr A. R. W. Lascelles is a very heavy loser. Indeed, it is quite evident that as information beoomes available, the total amount of damage done will prove much higher than was at first supposed. Mr McHardy's loss in crops is said to amount to £1200.
