... ...... The annual meeting of above was held on Wednesday. Present — Messrs Snelson (chairman), Park, Ravenhill, Ransome, Kendall, Nye, Lethbridge and Taylor. Mr Ravenhill proposed that Mr Taylor be chairman for the ensuing year. He thought Palmerston should not always have a monopoly in this respect.— Seconded by Mr Kendall. Mr Park proposed, as an amendment, that Mr Snelson be re-elected. He was of opinion that the 'chairman should reside in Palmerston as his services were often required.— Seconded by Mr Nye. Mi* Lethbridge was also of opinion that the chairman should reside in Palmerston. Mr Taylor said he would leave the matter in the hands of the meeting. If they entrusted Win with the chairmanship he would do his beat in the interests of the Board. Mr Nye was of opinion that the chairman should reside within easy distance of the hospital; at least for this year while there wasjw much to do. •., ; '-"..: ■-■:.. -•..::"ii^.i'. Mr Ravenhill said an executive committee could be appointed and the chairman would not necessarily have to be present when executive meetings were held. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : — / From Messrs Tripe, accepting position of honorary dentists to the hospital. Misses Haynes, Ellis, Chubbia,, Alexander and Tanner, applying, for position as probationers in the hospital.—Received. Messrs P. Welch, W. St. Joho, and J. Barnes, applying ior position of handy man or porter at the hospital. - Received. From Foxton Borough Counoil, forwarding an application for relief from Mrs Allan. -The clerk was instructed to make inquiries into the case. It was decided that one milch cow be purchased ior the use of the hospital. Mr W. It was decided that the monthy meeting of the Board be held on the second Thursday of each month; the next meeting to be held in January. The by-laws drawn up by tho Executive were read and adopted. The following letter was received r from Drs Macinhre and Porter: — f " The hospital baa now 16 patients in the Wards, leaving only nine b^is vacant for the accommodation of the patients expected from Wungamii, numbering, we understand, twelve to fifteen. We would suggest to your Committee the advisablene?s of intimating to the medical men of the district, tho members of the Board and others, that fov the prosent none but accidents or very * urgent cases can conveniently be admitted without previous notice being given to the secretary, and a raply from him being obtained, notifying that there is a vacancy in the hospital for the case." The suggestion was adopted. On the motion of Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Nye, the secretary was instructed to write to the v Wanganui Board and find out what patients from this district were fit for removal, and afterwards arrange for their removal to the Palmerston Hospital. Dr Monckton, of Feilding, was appointed honorary surgeon to the hospital The Board then adjourned. -- Standard.
