Foxton Borough Council.

The usual meeting of the above Council was held afc the Library Lmkuiiga yesterday at 2 p.m. Present -The Mayor (G. Nye), Crs Williams, Jenks, McPherson, Austin and TTamer. The. minutes of the last meeting v ore read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read : — From John Hill, Returning Officer, notifying that Mr G. Nye had been elected a representative for the combined boroughs, to the Palmerston Hospital Board. T. F. Gibson, informing Council of election of Cr Williams as Mayor. Audit Office, sending the balancesheets for the half year approved of. Horowhenua County solicitors stating they had been instructed to sue for £38 on Wirokino ferry account. The following accounts were passed for payment : — General— J, i Sullivan, £5 10s ; C. Spring, £9 Is ; G. Coley, 17s 8d ; E. Battersby, 12s; T. F. Gibson, £6 os; W. Atzdorf, £1 6s ; Audit Fees, £1 16s 8d ; Charitable Aid. (Young, Cole and Allan), £5 3s 6d ; Library account - McMillan Rhodes & Co., 12s ; H. Blftfce, Ml 10s. The following resolutions were agreed to : — Proposed by Cr Williams, seconded by Cr* Jenks, That Mr Herbert Hankifia be consulted on the Horowhenua case. The Council went into committee, on resuming It was proposed by Cr Hamer, se- | conded by Cr Jenks, That the Town Clerk attd Cr Williams be asked to interview Mr Hankins solicitor ye the claim of the Horowhenua County Council. — Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Austin, That notice be given to property owners to. clear all furze that has spread on to the roads from their adjoining properties. — Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Austin, That the clerk be authorised to get 2 or 8 tenders from the local painters to paint in two coats of best white lead the fences and gates of the Foxton Cemetery. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Williams, seconded by the Mayor,- That Cr Hamer be a member of the Works Committee and countersign cheques in place of Mi 1 Nye.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Williams, seconded by Or Jenks, That a special meeting be held on December 29th for general business in pjace of January. The Mayor desired to say that -as this was the last meeting he would be present at, he wished to thank the Councillors for their kindness and consideration whilst he had occupied the chair and also the Burgesses for having elected him to that position. He trusted if, after a rest he felt better, he would be able to join them once more. He had probably erred at times but he had always done his best. He left office with a sum of about £250 to come in, sufficient to pay all liabilities and leaving a credit balance. r l here was not however very much to do. Cr Williams proposed and Cr Austin seconded, That this Council tender Mr G. Nye the thanks for. Jbif energetic attention to the Burgesses interest while in the Council 'and will welcome with pleasure his return amongst them. Cr Williams said it was with very great regret he saw Cr Nye vacating the Mayoral chair.
