MR WILSON AND THE EDUCATION QUESTION.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE SIAXAWATO HKRALD. Sib, — One of the principle questions likely to be brought before the next , Parliament is the re opening of the Education Question. The matter to be decided will be : shall the State contribute towards the support of Denominational Schools? > Both candidates for the Otaki Electoral v District have declared themselves on this • point* Mr Fraser, if elected, will vote nt/aiii-of ■■' State aid to denominational school?. Mr Wilson, if elected, will vote tor . ( ; State-aid to denominational schools,. It is true Mr Wilson would limit such aid to schools in large towns— but the principle once admitted, that denominational schools have a claim to State-aid, any proposed limitation would soon be swept away. .Mr Eraser's platform avoids introducing religious controversies into parliamentary elections. Mr Wilson's platform would tend to embitter parliamentary elections by provoking and perpetrating religious ani- . mosities. It is impossible to grant Stateaid to denominational schools, without, in effect, using State funds for the support of denominational religion?. If a measure granting State aid to denominational j . l schools were carried, tho opponents of ! ,* such a measure would never^rest until it v . Ayere .erased iron: the Statute, book, and the question would be a bitter test question at every election. Those who are in favor of keeping the present -Educational systom untouched, willt«rf give their votes to Mr Wilson. I amy&c., ■■:*•{ . AN FJiKCTOV..
