MR. WILSON'S MEETING.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE JIANAWATC HERALD. Sib,— l went to hear Mr Wilson's speech on Monday night, and I must admit and I think so nlust everyone else that heard Him that it was a tery able rpeech. He showed very little sympathy, however, in regard to catholic claims re education. As he distinctly gave us to understand that he would not agree to Government making compromise with catholic3 unless they (Government) got the beet of the fish-gain, and more to suit their own purpose than that of catholics. It, however, would not matter to catholics as long as they got assistance, in what spirit it was given. And I have no doubt they would be willing to accept any assistance the Government might chose to give them. Mr Wilson's views on this question I think are such as ought not to be found fault with by the upholders of the present system of education But I have come to the conclusion that the well being and the upholding of the present system of education will not satisfy some of our bigoted electors. They want to make sure that catholics will derive no benefit whatever, no patter how it comeS about, even when it is shown that it is to the advantage of the present system of education. That is how I summed up in regard to a certain individual at the meeting on Monday night, a gentleman who is burning on the question, as after his persistant questioning and receiving answers as I said before. which ought to satisfy the most ardent supporters of the present system of education. He voted for the amendment, viz, " A vote of thanks only" at Mr Wilson's meeting on Monday night. This same gentleman, by the way, was so I fascinated by some Act of Parliament men- '■ tioned by the candidate, that in his eager- j ues3 to gain some knowledge of it (it being in "his line), ho forgot that Mr Wilson was j in the middle of his speech and had not started answering questions. — I am, ifcc, i OXK WHO ATTENDED THE METiTTXf; .
