Ladies and Gentlkmen, — A T the solicitation of a large number of the Klectors I have decided to contest the election in the Liberal interest and as a supporter of th i Government. I will take an early opportunity of explaining to yon my views upon the leading political questions of the day. I have the houour to be, I Your obedient servant, I DONALD ERASER. ! I advocate - ' 1 Greater ecouoniy in the Public ; Service.— All salaries above £600 to be reduced to £600 ; salaries from £600 to £500, reduction of ten per cent ; from £500 to £400, reduction I seven and a half per cent ; from £400 to £800, five per cent. No reduction below £300. The Governor's salary to be reduced from £5000 to £2500. This enormous saving to be spent in reproductive works, in opening up the country, and absorbing the unemployed labor. 2. Taxation —Land and Income Tax, with an increase of the graduated tax and decrease < f the custom duties on the necessaries of life. 8. Kailways. — To be managed by a Board of three directors, with the Minister of Public Works as chairman 4 Land. — Limitation of area of first-class land to 1000 acres for one family ; retention of the ballot ; perpetual lease, with right of purchase ; Land Boards <o be elected. 5. Education. - The retention of the present system of national education, with the following improvements : _The Boards to be elected by the householders instead of by committee. In districts where thtre is uot sufficient accommodation in the Board Schools capita* ion to be paid for children otherwise educated. 6. Native Lands.- That i* land held under native custom The owners to have the option of either selling or leasing to the Crown, or individualizing their titles. Lands Crown granted to be treated as land held by Europeans. 7. Legislative Council to be elected for six years. 8 . A reduction of honorari n m from £240 to £150 per annum.
