Excursion Trains.
We think that the management of our local section of the Government railways has not been quite up to the times. There seems to be a pl ; e vailing idea that settlerc in and around Foxton and Carnarvon are .rich. beyond. the- dreams of avarice, and that it would be ail insult to propose excursion fees to them. It is a facjfe that foi\ a considerable time no inducement has boen held out to them, by cheap fares* to travel between Foxton and Palmei'Stori 'or viw verm, and we honestly think that by not so doing money has been lost to the Commissioners. Yesterday and to day, though a Show is being held at Palmerston, the usual fares are charged, whereas a lower rate would be only a fair concession ■ both to the settlers and the organizers of the Show. We believe that a cheap train service during the summer months from Palmerston to Foxton would meet with a very general support, as a day's outing ou the river and down to the sea would be very enjoyable to those residing inland. At anyrate, both for the good of the two towns most interested and the Railway Commissioners, we trust the suggestion will be favourably entertained and a trial given.
